Hongshilin town of Guzhang county, located in Wuling Mountains, is a tourist destination with rich Tujia culture and beautiful natural scenery.

With distinct four seasons, abundant sunshine and rainfall, the town, located in the high-quality tea producing area at 28 degrees north latitude, has a tea planting area of about 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares). It is also one of the main production areas of Guzhang Maojian Tea.
Local leading enterprises such as Qingzhushan Tea Industry, Fukang Agriculture and Jinhua Agriculture have continuously improved their tea deep processing capabilities and tea brand quality.
On the basis of consolidating Guzhang Maojian Tea, they have taken the development of summer and autumn tea as an important way to extend the tea industrial chain and increase farmer’ income.
This development mode has increased the average income of tea farmers by 3,000 yuan per mu (0.067 hectares).
In addition to tea, the town government has also worked to develop characteristic industries such as oil tea, citrus and kiwifruit.
Longtianping Village has introduced a new citrus variety on over 1,500 mu (100 hectares) of land, and created a landmark brand, namely Hongdiji orange.
The cultivation of seedless kiwifruit is being carried out in Zuolongxia Village to promote the development and upgrading of the kiwifruit industry.
While actively developing the tea industry, Tiemazhou Village has planted 400 mu (26.67 hectares) of August melons, producing high-quality fruits to supply the fruit market. It has become a well-known August melon seedling and fruit distribution base in the Wuling Mountain area.
Hongshilin Town is a shining pearl on Fenghuang-Zhangjiajie Golden Tourism Line. It has two world-class signs, namely Xiangxi Hongshilin World Geopark, Cambrian stratigraphic section “Guzhang Golden Nail”, as well as two national honors of Zuolong Gorge Forest Park and Laosiyan, Zuolong Gorge and Baiguoshu National Traditional Village.
In recent years, Hongshilin Town has focused on building a tea tourism demonstration site that integrates tea production and processing, tea garden sightseeing, cultural experience, tea art training, and other functions, with Guzhang Maojian Tea as the core and Tujia culture as the soul. It attracts tourists to come to the tea garden for sightseeing, tea tasting, experiencing the fun of tea picking and tea culture.
Every spring and summer, tourists come in droves to enjoy the scenery and pick tea leaves, forming a new development pattern of tea tourism integration.
On average, over 2 million tourists were received throughout the year, directly generating tourism revenue of approximately 40 million yuan.
The local government has been making efforts to improve the living environment. Now, more than 600 “most beautiful farmhouses” have been created, and more than 2,000 toilets in the town have been renovated. More than 2 million yuan has been invested to support the development of “courtyard economy” in villages and communities.
Zuolongxia Village is one of those that see the vigorous development of rural cultural tourism in Hongshilin Town. The village is one of the first batch of Chinese traditional villages and a national ethnic minority characteristic village, preserving the folk customs of Tujia ethnic group for thousands of years.
Relying on Hongshiling and Zuolong Gorge, a number of homestay inns with ethnic characteristics have been built in the village. Rural tourism in such villages as Zhangjiapo, Dujiapo and Qingzhushan are flourishing, with emerging business formats like sightseeing agriculture, rural homestay inns and agritainment.
There is now a cultural tourism mode integrating adventure tour in Zuolong Gorge Scenic Area, farmhouse catering in villages, exploration in Liexi traditional village, ancient trees viewing at Dujiapo tea garden.
There are 41 agritainments and 84 homestay inns developed in the whole town, and new agricultural management entities such as farmer cooperatives and family farms continue to emerge, with more than 200 employees.
Live streaming accounts have become increasingly mature, with over 10 million fans on all online platforms, basically with one live streamer in one village.
In recent years, Hongshilin Town has vigorously promoted the upgrading of scenic spots to create beautiful business cards on the tourism golden corridor.
The Hongshilin World Geopark is the only red carbonate rock forest scenic area formed during the Cambrian period in the world, known as the “Wuling Wonder”.
